Rewa downs Suva

REWA football coach Marika Rodu is happy with the consistent performance after the side defeated Suva 3-1 in the Vodafone Premier League match at Ratu Cakobau Park on Wednesday.

Rodu’s men are third on the points standing with 14 points while Suva is second with 15 points while Lautoka leads the standing with 19 points.

“Suva came into the match to disrupt our normal build-up play from the back but we came prepared and our players were quick with the balls,” Rodu said.

“We allowed Suva to come up with an early goal in the first half.

“We continued to keep the pressure on Suva players and we played with the same formation throughout the match.

“We will be working on a number of things before the Battle of the Giants tournament and for us, it is a good continuity for us.”

Filipe Baravilala made a comeback for the team along with Waisake Navunigasau. Baravilala scored in the 11th minute past Rewa goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau.

Iosefo Verevou equalised for Rewa in the 45th minute of the match.

Rewa utility Samuela Kautoga gave the home team a win scoring twice in the 56th and 81st minute of the match.

Suva coach Nathan Shviam said the defensive blunders cost them the game.

“We had a good game in the first half but the boys could not keep the lead with Rewa coming in strong and due to the defensive blunders we conceded those goals,” the former Suva striker said.

“We had a lot of possession but we gave it away to Rewa and that is where they gained momentum.”
