In the past, churches have been criticised for keeping silent on the issue of domestic violence against of women and girls in Fiji, says House of Sarah founder Reverend Sereima Lomaloma.
However, she said that had changed over the years and churches were now more aware of the importance of condemning such actions.
“That silence has been broken and we are no longer silent,” Rev Lomaloma said.
“Churches have started to speak out on violence against women and children.”
Rev Lomaloma was among panelists at the ‘Promising practices in preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls in Fiji’ panel of discussion at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday.
House of Sarah is an initiative of the Association of Anglican Women that was launched in 2009, managed by a dedicated team of volunteers committed to promoting equal and respectful relationships.
The mission of this organisation is to provide a listening ear, warm heart and welcoming hand to women who are facing violence through the provision of counselling and support services.
