Retailers make plans to revive Suva on Sale

RETAILERS and other stakeholders have been urged to support the Revive Suva on Sale 2016 in a bid to develop and promote the Capital City.

The 2016 Suva on Sale was launched at the Suva City Council by the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Kumar yesterday.

Mr Kumar said such annual events were highly important for the Capital City which was regarded as the national seat capital.

He commended the Suva Retailers Association and Suva City to work as a group and initiate such ventures which would bring in a number of economic and social benefits.

“As revealed by the Suva retailers the event shall be spectacular and have multiple spill over benefits,” he said.

Mr Kumar said the event was meant to showcase Suva to visitors and every retailer’s support would assist in developing and promoting the product.

He said his ministry supported such ventures and thought that relations between the private investors and the municipal authorities was important for city or town building exercises.

“Towns and city councils have been informed to develop a special events co-ordinating unit with an aim to manage events of the relevant township.”

The Suva on Sale will be held from June 4 to 11 this year.

Meanwhile, special administrator Suva Chandu Umaria has called on the retailers to offer best and quality products only during the Suva on Sale this year.

Mr Umaria acknowledged the support of Suva retailers, the police and all other stakeholders in working together to make the event a success and encouraged them to plan a much bigger and better event for next year.

Suva Retailers Association secretary Selva Reddy said this year there were prizes for the Suva on Sale, which included two return airline tickets to Singapore and San Francisco.

Mr Reddy said they expected great success for this year and stressed the fact that retailers were in full support of the Government and ready to stimulate economic growth.
