Restaurant owner has ‘Midas’ touch

SUVA lawyer Hemendra Nagin says he has never come across a man who is more determined and more successful in everything he does.

Mr Nagin was referring to Rabindra Nath, the managing director of Pizza King and Wishbone, when he officiated at the opening of the new Pizza King and Wishbone outlet at Rups Nakasi shopping complex on Wednesday night.

“Whatever Rabindra touches turns to gold,” Mr Nagin said.

He said he had been to a lot of restaurants and whenever he visited the kitchen he would never return to that restaurant again because of its kitchen’s condition.

“But Rabindra’s kitchen is always excellent, clean and all and for those of you who haven’t been to this kitchen please do so because it’s really A1,” he said.

Mr Nath said they already had six Pizza King and Wishbone outlets throughout Fiji and the one opening at Nakasi was the seventh.

“We have our first at the Harbour Centre Wishbone and Harbour Centre Pizza King, one at Dolphin Plaza, one at Sports City, Centrepoint, one outlet at Martintar, Nadi, and then this one.

“In terms of investment, I spent close to $500,000 for this outlet alone; I’ve tried putting in state-of-the-art equipment which is very expensive; the whole kitchen is stainless steel, the exhaust system and everything,” he said.

Mr Nath said most of their kitchen equipment were American and were very expensive, which was why they had spent almost half-a-million dollars for the outlet.

“So far in all my shops I’ve spent a lot of money and we are now employing close to 200 people and for the Nakasi shop we will employ about 30 people.

“Well I started in 1986; we have now been 30 years in operation and I thought Nakasi was a good area, a very densely populated and growing area which is very popular so we decided to open one outlet here.”

When asked whether he was contemplating opening more outlets he said: “We’ll see how things go; a lot of people are asking me to consider opening in Vanua Levu, in Labasa, but I’ll see how things go from here.”

He said the location at Rups Nakasi was perfect because it’s beside the newly-opened FHL’s Life Cinema and the big shopping complexes at Nakasi.

“I thought I’d better open an outlet here to cater for the Nausori, Nakasi, Nasinu area; to have something different and also a lot of people have been asking me why I haven’t opened one here yet,” Mr Nath said.

He said his wife, Suzanne, and daughters were here helping him and he specifically thanked his family for their support during the years. He acknowledged his management team for their support, dedication and hard work for the company.
