THE bula smiles and excellent tourism services offered to guests of Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa for many years have been returned to staff at a time when they are struggling to meet their daily needs.

More than 300 staff members of the Denarau Island-based resort were given food packs and treated to lunch by the resort management recently

. Area general manager Fiji David Wells said about $21,000 worth of basic food packs were distributed among full-time staff who have been on leave without pay for the past couple of months.

“Initial funding has come from generous donations made by Hilton Villa owners who wanted to ensure that the team who have looked after them so well during their holidays over the years, were now themselves being supported during their very difficult economic downturn,” Mr Wells said.

“The rest of the food packs were purchased with funds sourced from guests who chose to donate into a team welfare fund following recent natural disasters.

“With so many workers in the hotel and tourism sector affected, the generous contribution from our villa owners and past guests has come at an optimum time for our team members.”

Resort employee Akariva Vakasoqo said the effort was timely as most of them had been without work for some months.

The front office attendant said this was why Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa stood out from other resorts because it always cared for its staff members during any crisis.
