The Nasinu Town Council has issued an illegal development notice to Telecom Fiji Ltd (TFL) and property owners who installed TFL network towers in the area.

Residents of Pilling Rd, Nasinu expressed concern last week over a tower they claimed TFL installed in their area.

Concerned resident Emele Duituturaga claimed the tower was put up by TFL overnight on Tuesday, June 1, and residents were not consulted.

Nasinu Town Council chief executive officer Anurashika Bari said as per the notice, TFL and property owners were required to comply within 30 days.

“As per the process, TFL should have lodged a request with Nasinu Town Council with all requirements and necessary approvals,” she said.

“This should have been done during the initial planning phase.

“In this case, this process was not followed,” she added

. “TFL can lodge the request with necessary documents and approvals.

“Council in consultation with Town and Country Planning and relevant authorities will assess and make the decision.”

Questions sent to TFL this week on the issue have not been answered.
