RESIDENTS of Namonamo settlement in Ra have taken it upon themselves to repair roads used by their children so they do not miss school.

A village elder, who preferred not to be named, said the deteriorating road condition started affecting the movement of residents a year ago.

Last week, residents used horses to cart gravel dug from a nearby creek and wood collected from nearby bushes.

“We have decided to just do it ourselves because if we complain and wait on authorities, it will take a long time for it to happen,” he said.

“Our schoolchildren have been affected by this bad road condition from last year and it was repaired once but the continuous heavy downpour has taken it back to its old condition.”

The village elder said residents had to walk 4km to access transport.
