People living in Yadrana Settlement, Delainavesi, were among a number of communities that were without water the past few days and are asking the Government to supply homes with water storage tanks.
Resident Ana Ratuva said they were forced to source water from the tank at the Ballentine Memorial School Hall. “We’re worried because the school might soon turn off the pipes to save water for those at the school,” she said.
“We have called Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) for water trucks so we can fill our empty containers and bottles but nothing yet. “There are almost 80 people living in Yadrana and all our water is off, all the way up to Nadonumai.”
Miriama Marama, resident of Sakoca Rd, Tacirua said their water was cutoff since Tuesday. “Whole of yesterday (Tuesday) and this morning (yesterday) we had no water, and the truck just came a bit after 11,” she said.
“This is not a one-off thing, we have been having water cuts for over the past year, sometimes no water in the morning and it will come on in the afternoon.”
Salanieta Mcgoon of Colo-i-Suva Village said she had only five bottles filled with water left which she was storing for drinking water.
“I had to send my grandchildren back to their parents who will be in Raiwai because the water was getting little,” she said.
“I just did my laundry and I washed it at the nearby river, last night it did not rain that much so we didn’t collect a lot of water.”
She said the residents had called WAF and still no water truck had come for the past four days.
WAF said in a statement further deteriorating of raw water quality was significantly hindering the system recovery efforts.
This, was affecting water production and reservoir levels at Tamavua Water Treatment Plant causing water cuts to these areas.
