NAVULA residents in Lautoka have been without a proper water supply for almost two months.

The residents have been surviving on rainwater and had been experiencing little to no water since November last year.

The residents said they had been waiting for authorities to assist them.

One of the affected residents, Sandeep Narayan, claimed the low pressure in their water supply was caused by blockages in the main pipes.

“We went through the same problem during Diwali last year and they sent their engineers to clear out the blockages,” he said.

“Then again around November and early December, we started experiencing the low pressure again.

“It got so bad that some houses didn’t have any water coming to their homes at all.

“We have been relying on rainwater and the nearby river, but we shouldn’t be doing that when we are connected to a water main.

“There are about seven houses that are currently facing this problem.”

Another resident, Ravinesh Chandra, said several requests for water carting services had been sent to the Water Authority of Fiji.

“We have a water tank, so that helps us, but we can’t use it if it’s empty.

“Only once has a water truck come to our home to fill our tank.

“It’s a big problem for us because some of us are not able to go to work because we have no water.”

Questions sent to the Water Authority of Fiji remain unanswered.
