Parents of a farming settlement in Nadroumai, Nadroga took the initiative to fill ‘lovo sized’ potholes along Uluisila Rd for the safety of their children who returned to school this week.

Uluisila advisory councillor Varun Kumar said one of the residents gave his truck to load soil used to bury potholes caused by heavy downpour in the past weeks.

“We have decided this was the best option and we cannot wait on authorities to come and do it for us as they have a lot on their plate already. About 40 of us helped in filling these potholes and most of us are parents so we decided this was the best course of action to take for the safety of everyone.”

Mr Kumar said the pothole issue was a recurring problem, faced after every heavy downpour.
