THE brawls that have broken out between residents of Sukanaivalu Rd and Mead Rd housing stemmed from a misunderstanding, claims long time Sukanaivalu Rd resident Simi Kuruvoli.
He claimed brawls first began when there was a misunderstanding about the theft of a valuable puppy some years ago.
“About two or three years back there was another one because a German shepherd puppy had been stolen from the ‘topline’ area and somehow the Sukanaivalu boys got the blame,” he said.
“It was really bad, a block was thrown on someone who had knocked out while drinking.”
Mr Kuruvoli said he had been chosen to be a representative on the neighbourhood watch committee to put together bylaws to regulate the activities of residents and the laws to be enforced by police and the Public Rental Board (PRB).
The committee is made of representatives, two from every street along Sukanaivalu Rd and from the PRB flats at Mead Rd.
He said a meeting was called on Monday to elect and convene a neighbourhood watch committee, but not all the representatives were present.
“Not everybody turned up for the meeting, I was chosen to be the chairman and we will have another meeting next week.
“I was chosen because of my involvement in a similar forum some years ago when Sukanaivalu Rd was considered a red zone for petty crimes.”
