Nawajikuma resident Rajnesh Krishna said they were preparing for an extended stay within the containment area as cases continued to increase each day.

He said yesterday marked the 14th day the community was sealed off.

“We got our second swab test done today (yesterday) and so far, we have not received any calls from government officials,” he said.

“From what I know, those with negative results don’t get contacted. It’s the people that test positive who are moved to the isolation facilities. Over the past few days, we have seen quite a few activities with health officers and police officers coming in and out of the containment zones. But for me and my family, we have been doing our best to get food and to help our neighbours.”

Mr Krishna said they received 10 food packs yesterday from a private donor. “We just try and get the help to those who need it and we are grateful that these good Samaritans came to assist us at a time we needed help.”

According to the Ministry of Health, two new cases were discovered in Nawajikuma settlement in Nadi on Tuesday.
