The Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) will not make any deduction from the $5 a tonne of cane payment to be made on Monday.

SCGF chief executive officer Raj Sharma said they had decided to defer the loan repayment in the final cane payment.

“SCGF received a total payment of $4.173m and has paid all the payments back to growers’ accounts in the banks,” Mr Sharma said.

“As a special case, those growers who were in arrears also have been refunded so that funds are used back on the farms.

“The repayments due together with other necessary repayments will be deducted in the next cane payment either end of the year or in January 2024.”

Mr Sharma has asked farmers to use the funds wisely and in case they do not need it, they could always pay back as repayment.

“The whole objective of the deferment is to make the best use for completing the harvest.”

He is urging all the growers indebted to the fund to make every effort to harvest their cane, especially those in the Northern Division.
