WORKS on partly damaged wharves in the North have started.
Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea said they had liaised with the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) on repair issues of the wharves at Savusavu and Nabouwalu.
“We will put in place a temporary measure and FRA is working on that right now,” Mr Vocea said.
“The damaged wharves won’t affect us for too long because we know that these are major entry points to the North.
“So FRA has started working on it today (yesterday) and we have discussed with them temporary measures that need to go up.”
Mr Vocea said if all went well, the temporary measures should be done by this week.
“It’s an urgent matter and people are depending on it for travelling purposes to Viti Levu so we are working on that,” he said.
“Right now, the assessment teams are out in the three provinces and when they return with the report, we will then determine the damage incurred by Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.
“It is a major damage with with houses blown off in some parts and communication lines as well still out.”
Mr Vocea said the teams would carry out their survey for three days before returning with the final report.
