LEGENDARY boxing trainer Johnny Lewis landed a helping hand to Fijian amateur boxing welterweight champion Winston Hill in his preparation for the upcoming Fiji Nationals and Pacific Games, Oceania and World Championship next year.

The 74 year old Australian boxing trainer has trained six world champions like Jeff Fenech, Kostya Tszyu, Jeff Harding, Gairy St Claire, Virgin Hill and Billy Dib.

Lewis said Winston Hill has the capability and attitude of becoming Fiji’s first world champion in boxing.

“I would love Winston to excel at the highest stage of boxing and when I look at him after three rounds fight he still has plenty petrol in his tank and I believe he’s a 12 round fighter and I would love to be part of Winston fighting the very best fighters in the world not in America or England but here in Fiji,” said Lewis.

Lewis believes Hill is a great ambassador of the sport because of his determination and love to the sport.

“This kid as I said, he’ll be a champion in the ring and a bigger champion outside the ring and that’s what counts, he is a wonderful ambassador of boxing itself and we need people like him in our sport.

Meanwhile Hill acknowledged Lewis for the support he has shown to him and boxing in Fiji as a whole.

“I am blessed to have Johnny Lewis here in Fiji for a week, he’s here to support boxing and in particular the Sukuna Bowl that is currently taking place,” Hill said.

Johnny Lewis is one of Australia’s most successful boxing trainers and in 2006 was inducted into the Australian Boxing Hall of Fame.
