People in a remote village in the interior of Naitaisiri hope to raise $80,000 to construct a road to their community.

At a recent talanoa session with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at the Muaira District School in Naitasiri, Tui Nakurukuruvakatini Ratu Rusiate Rorogaca said the road would improve access to Korovou Village.

He said they had engaged a private company to assist estimate the cost of constructing the road. Ratu Rusiate said the village was located about 40 minutes by foot from Sawanikula Village where the present road ended.

He asked Mr Bainimarama if Government could assist in the venture because it would benefit hundreds of villagers in the district of Noemalo and allow vehicle access.

Ratu Rusiate said the plan was to extend the road from Korovou Village through Narokorokoyawa Village to Matawailevu Village.

In response, Mr Bainimarama said he was impressed with the initiative and said he was well aware of the struggles people in that part of Naitasiri faced.

Commissioner Central Josefa Navuku thanked the villagers for their efforts and said they would need to work with the Forestry Ministry on the construction of the new road.
