Remand prisoner caught after escaping lawful custody

REMAND prisoner Niko Rokara Levula has been arrested this hour at Jittu Estate in Suva.

Levula had escaped from the Suva Court House premises this morning, and believed to have escaped in a taxi.

Ms Naisoro said the driver of the taxi had been interviewed and released because he had no direct knowledge of the fact that Levula was escaping from lawful custody.

Levula had been found guilty of a count each of burglary, rape and aggravated robbery.

He was earlier sentenced today in absentia to 20 years imprisonment.
