Fiji’s Supervisor of Elections and Registrar of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem has announced that Opposition MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau has been removed as SODELPA party president.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Mr Saneem said they would now await the appointment of another person based on the party’s rules.

He also announced the reinstatement of MP Adi Litia Qionibaravi as party general secretary.

Mr Saneem said Usaia Waqatairewa has also been removed as a registered officer as the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) awaits the appointment of a registered officer pursuant to Section 11 of the Political Parties Act.

He said those changes had been made with immediate effect to ensure the Orders in the judgement were complied with.

In its ruling delivered last Thursday (April 23, 2020), High Court judge Justice Vishwa Datt Sharma declared that the SODELPA annual general meeting held on June 28, 2019, breached provisions in the party’s constitution and the 2013 Fijian Constitution.

The High Court had also ruled that the decisions, resolutions, and outcomes of the party’s AGM and the elections of Ro Filipe as SODELPA president and Adi Litia as party vice-president were invalid.
