Update: 6:25PM STRENGTHENING regional and humanitarian partnership in disaster risk management was one of the primary outcomes of the Pacific Resilience Week meeting held at the Holiday Inn in Suva.
Pacific Community (SPC) deputy director-general, Dr Audrey Aumua said the meeting was attended by various relevant agencies such as the National Disaster Management Office from each of the 15 Pacific Island countries present at the meeting.
“We also acknowledge the Government of Fiji for continuing to host this meeting, recognizing that this week is an important resilience week,” Dr Aumua said.
“The presence of so many stakeholders signifies the importance of this meeting and highlights the regional attention on the very important discussions that will take place over the next few days on improving Pacific resilience and humanitarian action.
“It is not often that a gathering of the regional humanitarian workforce in one region convenes in these numbers to discuss the strengthening of disaster related partnerships and collaboration,” she said.
The meeting ends next week.
