THE reduction in education grants to schools is another example of the FijiFirst Government’s failure to deliver on its promises to the youth.

This was highlighted by Opposition spokesman for youth and sports Ratu Suliano Matanitobua in his response to President Jioji Konrote’s Parliament opening speech.

Ratu Suliano said there was a danger youths and students would be involved in school fundraising from next year, “wasting their study and leisure time because having failed to deliver tuition-free education and due to its own financial constraints”, Government had reduced education grants.

“What a mockery of the concept of free education,” he said.

“Conundrums within the Ministry of Youth and Sports where youth officers were laid off their jobs and their positions were re-advertised with another name, but the same job descriptions and reduced salaries.

“This is another example of the FijiFirst Government running deep into financial crisis and compromising and punishing our youth for its populist policies gone wrong.

“How can anyone for a moment or any youth in his or her right frame of mind trust this Government again?”
