AGRICULTURE Minister and Parliamentary Privileges Committee member Dr Mahendra Reddy disapproved of SODELPA MP Ratu Suliano Matanitobua giving evidence on a matter of privilege against Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and suspended Opposition MP Pio Tikoduadua.

This was revealed in the committee’s verbatim report of September 5, after Opposition MP Adi Litia Qionibaravi suggested to the committee to call Ratu Suliano to testify as a possible witness.

Dr Reddy disagreed, claiming it was inappropriate.

“I will not accept his evidence. He is a SODELPA member, an Opposition member,” he said.

Dr Reddy said if a person’s evidence or testimony was found contrary it couldn’t be trusted.

According to the committee chairwoman and deputy Speaker to Parliament Veena Bhatnagar, Ratu Suliano was in the washroom when the incident happened.

“Are there any more members or any other who you wish to call because looking at the time constraint, remember we do not have much time? So, if we move forward, please, let us move forward,” she said.
