THE Fiji Red Cross Society team has begun with the distribution of items to the affected victims of Severe Tropical Cyclone Keni in Kadavu yesterday.
This was confirmed by Fiji Red Cross operations manager Eseroma Ledua.
He said assessments conducted on the island by their team were over and the team had set out to distribute relief items to the families.
“Today (yesterday), the teams are going ahead with distributions on the islands of Namalata and Namuana,” Mr Ledua said.
“According to our team in Kadavu, the destruction was caused by strong winds and not by flooding.
“Our team will assist as many affected families as they can during their stay in Kadavu.”
He said because of village protocols on the island, the team would begin distributions today and continue tomorrow.
Meanwhile, he said in the Western Division the teams had ended all assessments and had started with distributions.
Mr Ledua said this was because he wanted distributions to start as soon as possible so families could be assisted quickly.
He also reiterated that Fiji Red Cross would only be assisting families that were affected by TC Keni.
