A REALITY television program aimed to promote local cuisine within the South Pacific region will be out soon.

The Pacific Island Food Revolution will cover four countries such as Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu and Samoa in 12 episodes.

Speaking at the launch at Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva today, Her Royal Highness of Tonga Princess Salote Pilolevu thanked the organisers for such initiatives that would promote Pacific culture.

She said it was important that people maintained the essence of traditional cuisines as westernisation had started to influence people’s eating habits.

“I believe that young Pacific islanders play an important role in this. It is important that we preserve the manner in which our ancestors used to live and it’s important that we keep that alive, this is something we are known for,” Princess Salote said.

Program host and international chef Robert Oliver said this would be a platform for people to know the richness in local cuisine.

He said he would not allow low-value food sellers to advertise with them.

Mr Oliver said they would use the power of mass media to encourage people to love eating their local food.
