THE recent REACH program led by Minister for Women Mereseini Vuniwaqa targeting villages in Udu Point area has financially benefited rural dwellers.

Nukusa villager Maikeli Sauwaqa said the visit meant they did not have to travel to Labasa Town to print birth certificates or access services at the Ministry of Justice for matrimonial purposes.

“Couples got married in our villages without having to travel to Labasa to the Ministry of Justice office and this saved us money, otherwise we would spend $150 to hire a carrier to town for the relatives,” he said.

“Parents who wanted to print birth certificates for their children got it done during the REACH outreach and the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs were also here for the VKB services.”

Asenaca Bau, president of the village women’s group, described the awareness as enlightening.

The program which ended two days ago also resulted in a Christmas celebration with residents and staff of the Golden Age Home in Labasa.

While expressing her gratitude to the staff, Mrs Vuniwaqa urged them to continue with the best services they have provided for the residents over the years.
