THE construction industry has important linkages with other sectors.

This is an issue that Reserve Bank of Fiji governor Ariff Ali will be highlighting in his presentation at the 2019 Construction Industry Council (CIC) Conference, which will be held next month.

Mr Ali, who will be leading a discussion on the theme ‘The construction industry represents the building blocks of an economy’, says the industry plays a key role in any economy because it is a major driver for economic growth and employment.

He said the construction industry also has important linkages with other sectors such as transportation, and wholesale and retail trade and, therefore, the industry’s contributions to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and economic development went beyond its direct influence through construction activities.

Mr Ali also plans to discuss the challenges facing the industry at present.

The conference will be held at the GPH from June 13-15.
