Fiji recorded increased total inward remittances, including mobile money transfers, totaling $389.1million in the first half of this year.

The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RNF) noted this in its August economic review issued last night and said that value accounted for a 24.5 per cent increase.

The central attributed this increase to higher inflows from personal transfers, which it said more-than-offset negative contributions from the compensation of employees and migrant transfer categories.

“On a monthly basis, receipts grew by 0.3 per cent in June, largely driven by the growth in migrant transfers and personal transfers,” the RBF stated.

Earlier last month, Vodafone Fiji had said that its mobile digital wallet M-PAiSA recorded its highest single-month inward remittances of $15.35million in July alone, which was approximately 26 per cent of all personal remittances into the country.

And it also said then that the mobile digital payment platform was processing more than $100million in transactions every month; which it attributed to businesses realigning business processes to continue to remain relevant and accessible to customers in light of COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols.
