A ray of hope was seen on the faces of students of Dawasamu District School and Dawasamu Secondary School after the opening of their new school buildings and facilities last week.
The Indian Government through its adopt a school program helped build the school facilities for the two schools after the school buildings were destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.

Students of Dawasamu District School sing a song for the Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar after she officially opened their new school building with the Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Srimati Padmaja. The building was funded by the Indian Government through its Adopt a School Program. The old building was severely damaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.

The Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Srimati Padmaja, in her address said she was happy to be at the school during the official opening.
“It is a matter of satisfaction for India to be part of Fiji Government’s adopt a school program,” she said.
“After TC Winston, India shared the pain experienced by Fijians.
Apart from immediate relief supplies India contributed to the Fijian Prime Minister’s relief fund and also supported rehabilitation of 20 schools in Fiji.”

She said it was a noble cause and she was honoured to be part of the event.
“We all know the importance of education for all,” she said.
“Access to education to all sections of society including the underprivileged is of paramount importance for nation building inclusive and sustainable future of any country.”
The Dawasamu District School new school building and other school facilities cost $2.8 million while the Dawasamu Secondary School building cost $1.7 million
