FORMER Flying Fijian and Fiji 7s rep, Ifereimi Rawaqa has been selected as the head coach of the Tropik Pine Lautoka Maroons team replacing Osea Umuumulovo.

The former Lautoka captain will be assisted by strength and conditioning coach Saiasi Qalova Navunitale and former Naitasiri backline coach Vereniki Turaga Vaubula. Rawaqa, also a former Lautoka rep and coach, said he had a lot to offer to the team.

“I am honoured to be given another opportunity to coach the team again,” Rawaqa said.

“After I left the team, I knew I haven’t completed my job and watching the team’s performance from the outside really motivated me to come back.

“I have mapped out a plan for the new season and I will make sure to execute this plan with the help of my two assistant coaches.”

Rawaqa said his ultimate target was to help the side secure a spot in the Skipper Cup competition.

He said he would be working with the same players from this year’s squad for their off-season training. “It is going to be a huge challenge and I am ready to give my best.

“We will also search for talents outside the squad from affiliated clubs then have the final trials.”

Rawaqa said training for the Tropik Pine Lautoka Maroons squad would start next Monday.

Meanwhile, the Tropik Pine Lautoka Sugar 7s will be held at Churchill Park on Saturday with $5 entry fee.
