Ravouvou starts U20 rugby preparations

NATIONAL under-20 coach Salimoni Ravouvou has named 13 Fiji Schoolboys team in his U20 squad to prepare for the U20 qualifiers.

The Lomaiviti man plans to see that these players get to be the core team for the next three years when players from last year’s U20 side who are still in the team move on.

Ravouvou said his plan would be to see that players be in the U20 system for at least three years to see Fiji back in the Junior World Rugby Championships and maintain its place there.

The Junior World Rugby Championships is where Tier One teams in the U20 compete.

“We have an U17 here and the U18 and U19 schoolboys have also been brought in because the players who are coming aged 20 years have a slim chance of being in the team,” Ravouvou said.

“We want to see them play for at least two to three years so when they reach 20, it will be their last chance to play in the U20 championship before they move on to the clubs.”

The U20 qualifiers will be played in Fiji from November 26 to December 10 where Fiji will face Tonga and Cook Islands to try and qualify for the 2017 World Rugby U20 Trophy and the 2017 Oceania Rugby U20 Championship joining Samoa, New Zealand and Australia.
