Update: 3:00PM FIJI’S High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ratu Meli Bainimarama passed away in Suva this week after a short illness.
A career civil servant, Ratu Meli rose through the ranks of Fiji’s public service and served in various capacities for 48 years before his diplomatic appointment.
In a statement, the Bainimarama family said the funeral preparations had started with the i-reguregu starting today at Ratu Meli’s residence in Tamavua, Suva.
The funeral service would take place this Saturday at 10am at the Wesley City Mission Church, Butt Street in Suva.
Ratu Meli’s survived by his wife Sereani, his six children and six grandchildren.
