Former Military Commander and Taveuni chief Ratu Epeli Ganilau has been laid to rest at their family burial site in Vuniduva, Somosomo on Taveuni.

His casket was led by a  procession through the village to the burial site overlooking the village.

At the church service, Methodist Church in Fiji president Reverend Ili Vunisuwai said he worked with Ratu Epeli while serving in Lebanon in the 1990s.

“I was the church minister but he has a very good heart and always ensured that all soldiers are looked after well,” Mr Vunisuwai said.

Former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama who joined the military officers at Vuniduva this morning described Ratu Epeli as a man of honour.

More detailed report in tomorrow’s edition of The Fiji Times.
