RATU Epeli Niudamu was awarded Member of the Order of Fiji at an investiture ceremony held at the State House in Suva, yesterday.

The 60-year-old was bestowed the honour for meritorious service in a particular locality or field of activity.

Ratu Epeli has helped with the development of the Province of Ra for the past 25 years.

“This medal is not only for me but it is for everyone from Ra and I am so honoured to be here today with my wife,” he said.

“I am grateful to receive this award today on behalf of my people.”

Twenty-eight recipients were recognised for their contribution to nation-building and acts of bravery.

This was highlighted by President Jioji Konrote during the ceremony.

He commended the contributions made by the recipients towards their communities and the nation as a whole.

“We are gathered here today (yesterday) to once again acknowledge and award the recipients with honours,” he said.

“Most importantly to continue to provide and uphold the culture of Fiji.”
