Ratu Epeli attends royal funeral

Update: 1:58PM FORMER President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau paid his respect to the late Monarch of Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Grand Palace.
He also signed the condolence book, the Government statement issued today said.
In his condolence message, Ratu Epeli wrote: “The President, the Government and the people of Fiji mourn with Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the members of the royal family, the government and the people of Thailand on the sad occasion of the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. His light still shines brightly and will never fade.”
The former president traveled to Bangkok in place of President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote who is away abroad on official duties.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the visit by the former president underscored the strong relations Fiji had with Thailand.
Ratu Epeli was accompanied by Fiji’s non-resident Ambassador to Thailand Kolinio Takali, Counsellor Pita Tagicakirewa, Protocol Officer Ilaisa Naiviqa and a representative from the Honorary Consul General of Fiji in Thailand’s office, Voranuj Nilkosol.
