THE Nausori Magistrates Court has transferred a case of a 64-year-old man accused of raping his 12-year-old granddaughter to the High Court in Suva.

The accused is charged with five counts of rape and one count of indecent assault.

He is alleged to have committed the offences on several occasions at a settlement between January, 2016 and October, 2019.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Shailend Prasad served full phase disclosures in court and objected to bail yesterday.

Sergeant Prasad said the matter was an indictable offence and there was clearly a breach of trust.

He also said these types of offences were on the rise and prevalent in the community.

The grandfather has been remanded.

The matter will now be called again on January 24.
