The USP Raiders were crowned winners of the inaugural Fiji National Rugby League Women’s Premiership after upsetting favorites Police Blues 14-12 in the final at Albert park in Suva yesterday.
The Raiders, which last won the title in 2020, proved their worth against the women in blue whereby they managed to dominate majority of the match.
Team head coach Asaieli Saravaki said he couldn’t be prouder of his players, who executed what they had been working on over the past week.
“Many of the girls in the team are new to rugby league, but their commitment to the team’s goal has brought them this far,” he said.
“They managed to execute what we have been going through over the past week.
“Police Blues are a champion team and winning against them is a great achievement for my team.”
Saravaki thanked the girls for their bravery and hard work on the field against a very experienced Police Blues side.
“They stood up to Police Blues and showed they have what it takes to compete against the best in the country.”
He thanked supporters and fans of the team who showed up to Albert Park to cheer the team on.
“To all our fans here, we just want to thank you for all your support, and for believing in the girls since day one.”
Saravaki saidhis players had shown significant improvement since the beginning of the tournament.
“They have shown so much improvement since the beginning of the tournament, as most of them were new to the sport.”
