People have seen the failures of Government long before the COVID-19 pandemic, SODELPA MP Salote Radrodro told Parliament this week when contributing to the debate on the 2021-2022 Appropriation Bill that was later passed by the House.

The budget, she said, had brought great sadness and apprehension to people because it did nothing to directly improve the lives of people coping with daily struggles during this pandemic.

“The Minister for Economy again blamed the pandemic as an excuse for Fiji’s economic doom,” she said.

“But our people have seen the failures of this FijiFirst Government. They have suffered impoverishment and trauma well before COVID-19 arrived.”

She said over the past years Government wasted billions of dollars with mismanagement as highlighted in the auditor-general’s reports.

“Now the Minister for Economy comes to Parliament again with this Budget and just like previous ones it is another smoke and mirrors trick, another attempt to continuously hoodwink the people of Fiji.”
