Race attracts overseas entries

THE Island Chill Suva Marathon is eyeing more overseas competitors in the future.

Suva Marathon Club president Sandeep Narayan said they were positive they would have a big turnout at the event.

“We are on track and it is good to see more businesses are registering for the race,” he said.

“In terms of numbers, we are getting more interests from individuals from overseas this year.

“We have so far got 50 registrations from overseas.”

There would be 50 people running the full marathon and about 100 who would be running the half and 80 teams registered for the team marathon.

“We had about 35 participants from overseas last year and the numbers increased this year where we are running half and full marathon,” he added.

“The club is targeting about 1500 runners. Our athletes have done well in the Oceania Athletics Championship.”

The event will start at Albert Park in Suva on July 22.
