Rabuka to engage overseas counsel

FILIMONI Vosarogo the lawyer for SODELPA leader, Sitiveni Rabuka today informed the Suva Magistrates Court that they will be engaging an overseas lawyer in their case.
Mr Rabuka who is charged with one count of providing false declaration of his assets, income and liabilities appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa for mention this morning.
He is being charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
Mr Vosarogo informed the court that they would like 14 days to complete the paper work for the new defence lawyer.
FICAC lawyer Rashmi Aslam did not object however he has suggested to the court that the hearing on the voir dire and substantive file to be done together.
It is alleged that on December 29 last year, Mr Rabuka provided a false declaration of assets and liabilities to the Supervisor of Elections by failing to provide information, namely the tax liability with Fiji Revenue and Customs Service in the amount of $316,956.20, the investment and interest income with said Raghwan Construction Ltd in the amount of $120,000 contrary to the Political Parties Act.
The matter has been adjourned to August 13, for mention.
