THE Social Democratic Liberal Party has not received any application from any other members of the now suspended People’s Democratic Party to contest this year’s election under a SODELPA ticket.
SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka said the application period was now closed.
Mr Rabuka said former PDP leader Lynda Tabuya was lucky enough to book a spot when she applied after the party invited expressions of interest.
“Not so far, I have not seen any applications. It’s now too late to do that. We had put out a public invitation in 2016 and it was open to all those who wished to come and apply. That was when Lynda applied,” he said. PDP and SODELPA recently signed a MOU of co-operation and relationship of unity.
And under the MOU, PDP members can resign from the party and contest as a SODELPA candidate for the upcoming election.
Ms Tabuya had also earlier clarified that the MOU signed between the parties was not a merger.
Meanwhile, Mr Rabuka confirmed the party was still briefing provisional candidates and also conducting awareness programs with the various groups and party representatives that would be based at the various polling stations on polling day.
