The People’s Alliance party leader Sitiveni Rabuka announced that 55 candidates would contest the next general election under the party banner and hinted that more Social Democratic Liberal Party members will join his party.

Mr Rabuka said he was confident of winning the next general election, at a media conference, where former Opposition Whip Lynda Tabuya announced she had resigned from SODELPA and was joining him.

“Those former politicians, members of other political parties, but what we are looking for is their potential contribution and the number of votes they can bring in,” he said.

“Most of you would have heard me say that the door to The People’s Alliance party is open for anyone from SODELPA who wanted to move in.”

He said he had worked with various calibres of people, including SODELPA members.

“Since I left, we worked together and we developed that working relationship.

“And wherever I went, I would have been on their radar – knowing where I am moving from or moving to – and the working relationship we had developed from the time we started to when I became the leader.

“We had worked together very well and so they were always watching, in fact, more will be ready to move with me.”

Mr Rabuka said the onus of joining his party rested with each individual.
