THE Queen Victoria School under-19 rugby league side defended its Tanoa Challenge title away from home yesterday, holding off determined new-comers Naitasiri Secondary School 18-4 at their school grounds in Naluwai, Naitasiri.

Despite the loss, Naitasiri Secondary School principal Joseva Jale was encouraged by the move by the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League committee to allow them to host a match at the school grounds.

“It is the first time in history for our school to play here on home ground here in Naluwai,” Jale said.

He said it was an eye-opener for the school to witness such competitions and hoped there would be more in store for the future.

“Our players are not just here to make the numbers.

“We hope that it will open the door for our students to be part of the national league team that will tour Australia.”

Meanwhile, in the second match, Nasinu Secondary School under-19 ousted Latter Day St Church College 18-10 in their clash yesterday at Latter Day St Church College grounds in Tamavua, Suva.

Nasinu Secondary School head coach, MoseseRova commended his players for the great performance that they displayed yesterday.

“We came prepared,” Rova said.
