The Holocaust

I must admit that I was taken aback when a group of third year tertiary students had never heard about the Holocaust!

Another battle!

Kiniviliame Keteca,

7s host

Good to see Government’s support in hosting a 7s series in Fiji. Government also nominated Nadi if we have rights to host.

While the venue is convenient, one has to consider it’s a flood zone. If dates have been confirmed and if there’s a flood than surely it has to be cancelled! Unless government can assure good drainage and guarantee us there won’t be any flooding in Nadi should a natural disaster strike.

Otherwise the ideal location would be either Lautoka or Suva.

Go Fiji.

Killer disease

The revelation in this newspaper of an outbreak of a threatening disease called meningococcal (FT 21/3) is alarming because it affects the brain.

I believe it puts to question the right of people according to section 38 of the constitution. Lord have mercy with this killer disease.

Philippines tour

Our “Bula Boys” are all set to take on the Philippines in Manila today. Preparation may not have been to the best of our expectations but I believe we have a good team on paper to take on the hosts, who are ranked at 122 while Fiji is ranked at 168.

Even goal scoring sensation and Wellington Phoenix striker Roy Krishna joined the team which includes experienced names in Tekiate, Sivoki, Rawaqa, Qase, Rusi, Radrigai, Sahib, Simi and Ame Votoniu for the tour. The selection of young blood in Kishan Sami, Naisua, Leiroti, Anare, Baravilala and Patrick Joseph goes out to show that there is an abundance of youth talent in Fiji.

I am also happy for Master Bal Sanju Reddy as he joined the national side as Gamel’s assistant. There’s a need to reward performing coaches such as Bal and Rodu for national duties. I wish our “Bula Boys” all the best for today’s challenging encounter on the path to the 2026 World Cup soccer!

Street beggars

I came across a beggar in town the other day and out of sympathy, I got my wallet out and handed over $2. To my surprise, he demanded another dollar. OMG! What next?
