THE five contestants for the Farmers Carnival that kicked off last Saturday went on a guided tour of the Lautoka Sugar mill yesterday.
Carnival committee chairman Udit Narayan said the young women were briefed on the processes involved in the manufacture of sugar.
“Being a carnival for the farmers, it is vital for our contestants to understand this industry,” Mr Narayan said.
“We wanted them to go out into the field and learn about the industry.”
Meanwhile, Mr Narayan said the first few days of the carnival had surpassed all expectations.
“The turnout has been wonderful. We were not expecting it.
“There were also a lot of people who came for the Eid Mela celebrations on Sunday and we thank them for it.”
The first public judging was held last night. .
