More than 400 Lautoka Hospital workers who are in the middle of a 21-day quarantine will be one of the first groups of frontliners to receive their second doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Head of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services COVID-19 Vaccination Taskforce, Dr Rachel Devi said the medical and hospital staff members were among the priority groups identified for the second doses.
“The second dose will start rolling out in about two weeks’ time,” she said.
“We are definitely planning for the next round of doses because the second dose will start very soon for the first batch of frontliners but that’s pretty easy to do because we know them and we can conduct them at hospitals and the health centres.”
She said crowd control would also be a focus in their next vaccination round.
“We haven’t really planned in terms of specifics but definitely no site is going to open unless we know there is good crowd control. The other thing is for people that are coming in to have a bit of initiative themselves.
“But we know that in Tilak (Lautoka), for example, people turned up to the station at around 5am which is way before the time that the station opened.
“So, in that context, we might have to have security on standby even way before the crowd turns up.”
