Qiliho: We update Pio

THE Fiji Police Force says it will only update suspended Opposition member of Parliament Pio Tikoduadua about the progress of his police complaint.

This is the word from Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho in response to questions from this newspaper yesterday.

Mr Tikoduadua had lodged a report at the Totogo Police Station on August 9, claiming that he was allegedly manhandled by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama. Brig-Gen Qiliho directed this newspaper to get an update from the complainant.

“Go ask him (Mr Tikoduadua), you go and ask him, we will update Mr Tikoduadua, we don’t update the news,” he said.

“We update the complainant, not the newspaper. So you go and ask him, if he wants to talk to you about it then that it is up to him.”

In an interview with this newspaper yesterday, Mr Tikoduadua said he had not received any update from police regarding his complaint.

“I haven’t received anything from them, nothing so far, zero,” he said.

Brig-Gen Qiliho had earlier said that investigations into Mr Tikoduadua’s complaint were ongoing.

Meanwhile, Mr Tikoduadua was suspended from Parliament for six months on Friday.

This was after he opted not to follow the recommendations of the Parliamentary Privileges Committee and not apologise to Parliament about claims by Mr Bainimarama that he had personally attacked him.
