MORE than 200 police recruits have been reminded by Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho that his expectations are high.

While opening the basic recruitment course for the first batch of recruits for 2019, Brig-Gen Qiliho told the recruits that as members of a disciplined force, they needed to lead by example and any reports indicating otherwise would not be taken lightly.

“Recruits, whether you are serving in Fiji, Nauru or Tuvalu, if you don’t have the passion and you’re not willing to dedicate your entire being to serving others, I can guarantee that you are going to have a very turbulent career as a police officer,” Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

“The next four months will be a futile exercise if you have not realised that your life now belongs to the people you serve. You need passion if you are to succeed in this profession.

“It’s the passion that drives you to wake up every morning, put on your uniform and serve complete strangers.”

Police officers from Nauru and Tuvalu are among the recruits. This, he said, was a vital element of policing that officers needed to possess.
