The 49th Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) conference ended in Nadi on last week.
Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho said they achieved the collective will to further strengthen partnerships in addressing the health and wellbeing of Pacific police forces.
“The two-day conference was a success, as it gave the chiefs of police the opportunity to share experiences and knowledge, hear from professionals, observers and partners, and deliberate on how to further strengthen current efforts in ensuring healthier Pacific police forces,” he said.
“It has been an honour for Fiji to host, noting that this is where the organisation was established in 1970 in Suva, by a group of visionary police chiefs who had a vision of working together to build safer and more secure communities by improving policing.”
The 2022 PICP conference also marked the growth of the regional body, as it welcomed Tokelau as its 22nd member.
“We are pleased to welcome the Tokelau police into the fold and look forward to working together to address crime and safety issues in the region together.”
Commissioner Robert A Guerrero of the Northern Mariana Islands is the new the chair of the PICP.
