Push to start

According to Allen Lockington’s April 11 letter, his car could not be push started since it had an automatic transmission.
That’s the problem with these late model cars.
Until 1956, all cars with automatic transmissions could be push started.
Then, to save money, manufacturers, one by one, started omitting the rear pump thereby making push starts impossible until by the middle 1960s no new car with an automatic transmission could be push started. Those who want a car with an automatic transmission that can be push started should get an older car.
