TOURISM is the backbone of the Fijian economy and the world needs to know that it is open for business.
This was the message by Tourism Minister Faiyaz Koya.
Citing recent announcements that the agriculture sector had sustained about $120million in damage and the sugarcane industry $83million, Mr Koya said it was up to the tourism industry to take the country forward as the nation struggled to rebuild after Severe TC Winston.
“We need to get the message out as fast as we can that Fiji is open for business because we really don’t have any option at the moment except for tourism,” he said.
During an emergency meeting with stakeholders last Saturday in Nadi, Mr Koya challenged resort and tour operators to work together, and called on Tourism Fiji and Fiji Airways to produce attractive and competitive holiday packages to entice visitors.
