Puamau applauds U15

BASKETBALL Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau is happy with the performance from the under-15 players in the men’s and women’s categories during the championship yesterday.
Puamau says this is a build-up towards the FIBA Oceania U15 Championship that will be held here in December.
“We will organise a trial in the following week after our one-week basketball championship that will continue next week and we will select a training squad for both that will start preparing for the competition,” he said.
“We’ve seen a lot of intense competition and we’re excited to have these young players represent the country.
“We are looking forward to more grassroots level development and get our community involved in supporting our young player prepare for the championship.”
Puamau added as time goes by, people will be informed on what they will be doing, there training schedules and many more.
The competition sees Saints as one of the top teams after beating USP Islanders 45-34.
In the girls’ under-15 grade, Iconic Reeds defeated Rookies Red 38-19 while Raiwaqa thumped Rookies White 11-8.
In the boy’s under-15 grade saw Rookies White thrash Raiwaqa Red 24-12.
The competition was held at two venues; the FMF Gymnasium and also the USP Fitness Centre.
